So our family goals for this summer were to get Joe off to Iraq, pack up the kids and drive accross the country to Utah, spend time with family, have a healthy baby boy, recover from all the festivities and then drive the 2200+ miles back home. Goal number one and two are complete. Chipping away on the list, and with the much needed assistance of my Mom, we started our jouney west early on May 26th. Thankfully my kids are really good travelers and the trip was somewhat uneventful. We stayed our first night in St. Louis, MO and then drove the second day to a little town called Limon, CO. The next day was both Memorial Day and my 13th wedding anniversary. Joe tried a few different times to call, but we were on a stretch of road that doesn't have good cell phone reception. It was a big bummer to miss the calls, but at least I knew he was safe and well. That was as good of an anniversary present as I could ask for. We made a pit-stop in Green River, UT and I ran into one of my good friends - Stephanie Picket-Parkinson from High School. The world is such a small place. So there we sat for a couple of minutes catching up in the restroom of a Chevron station! We finished the rest of our trek and unloaded our weary bodies at Joe's parents house in Ephraim about 4:00 pm that Monday. We had a few days to get settled in as Gordon and Marcia were finishing up a fabulous cruise around the Greek isles. They have since returned and we have had a great time here with them. My Mom is only a few minutes away as well, so we have been able to spend a lot of time with her and her husband (AKA Grammie & Pa). We have met up with my sister and her family for some fun and lucky for us Joe's brother Andy lives right here in town. He and his wife Jennie have 4 great kids, so most everyone has someone to play with (except Cooper, he's kind of the odd man out). Somehow he muddles through all the girls by helping Grandpa with projects and, oh yeah, playing the XBOX.
Now that we have settled in, I am trying to get things ready for this baby to be born in a couple of weeks. My due date of July 2nd is fast approaching and because I won't have Joe to rely on, I'm try to get everything together. This afternoon I decided that I needed to run to the local WalMart and grab a couple of things. I knew that it was blustery outside and that it was raining, but I didn't expect it to be as cold as it was. By the time I came out of WalMart and got to my car, our digital thermometer said 38 degrees!!!! Brrrrrr!!!!! When I got home I checked the weather in Savannah I found it to be a balmy 91 degrees. What a contrast!!!! I do have to admit I have been loving the weather here. It has been warm but not hot during the days (I know, I know, the hot is on the way) and it cools down to almost chilly in the evenings and at night. I have not felt any effects of humidity (because there is none) and I haven't seen any huge bugs. It's a wonderful life here at the base of the mountains!!! I won't go into all the different cultural differences I have noticed, but there are many (both good and not so good). We have really enjoyed the time we have spent in Georgia, especially because of the great friends we have met, but I am really craving a move back West. We'll see how I feel in a few months. For now, I'll enjoy the 38 degree weather while it lasts and soak up the beauty of the area I took for granted for so many years.
