One of my favorite competitive reality TV shows began a new season last night. I got hooked on Project Runway (airs on Bravo Wednesday nights at 9 PM my time) last season when I heard about it on one of my favorite radio shows (Broadminded on Take 5, XM 155). If you've never watched it, you should totally check it out. I LOVE American Idol and really like SYTYCD, but I hate being tied down to watch for two nights. Like the Bachelor/Bechelorette, each episode is completed in one night. Much more accomodating for my time schedule.
Here is a brief outline of the show: "Returning to the runway, host and supermodel Heidi Klum heads a panel of industry luminaries, including judges, top women's and menswear designer Michael Kors, and fashion expert Nina Garcia, as they decide who is "in" and who is "out." Tim Gunn, Chief Creative Officer at Liz Claiborne, Inc., will once again act as a mentor to the designers as they take on weekly fashion challenges. The 16 Project Runway contestants will be whittled down week-by-week to the finalists who will show their own line in front of an audience of fashion industry movers and shakers at New York Fashion Week."
This week, the contestants were given 30 minutes and $75 to shop in a grocery store for materials to create an outfit. The designers must make the garments themselves, fit them on a model and direct stylists on how to do their hair and makeup for the runway show. People picked anything they could find in the grocery store from trash bags, tableclothes and shower curtains (boring) to mop heads, fresh produce, candy, pasta, lawn chairs, vacuum bags bleached and dyed to create a marbled cloth (very cool), coffee filters and the most ingenious idea.......BLUE PLASTIC SOLO CUPS!!! Now who would ever think of that?? They were given eight hours to complete their project and then a little extra time to fit their models and get ready for the runway. I love the creativity of these people and I marvel at their mad skills on a sewing machine. I have never aspired to be nor will I ever be any kind of designer, but again.....I love to see what these people come up with.

Dude that made the ugly white trench coat got the boot

The girl that made the short dress out of dyed and bleached vacuum bags was the winner and received immunity next week.
There is sure to be lots of drama and great things to come in the following weeks. I can't wait!!!
