Mornings are crazy around here. Cooper gets up around 5:45 AM and I run him up to the bus stop at 6:30. That gives me a little downtime to sleep (what I would choose to do every morning if I could), jump in the shower or start packing up lunches. The girls wake up somewhere between 7:00 and 7:30 AM. That usually gives us at least a good hour to get everyone dressed, fed, teeth brushed and hair combed before we have to head out the door. That sounds like plenty of time, but these kids have their own way of fiddle-fartin' around and getting us into a rush most mornings. On a VERY rare occassion, Joe is around to help out with the morning madness but he is absolutely NO HELP (I can say that because he freely admits it) when it comes to the girls hair. I LOVE dolling the girls up with sweet hairstyles, but I typically don't have time. That "morning madness" has brought on a major case of the "hair blaughs" to our house.....that is, until recently.
I've mentioned before that I like to check out a few of those hair blogs, just to get ideas. I thought the basket weave I did last week was lots of fun, but even though I only did half of two heads of hair (did that make sense as you read it?), it still took lots of time. I am always on the lookout for quick and easy ways to spiff up our typical hairstyles (pigtail with bow, ponytail, etc.). All of my girls have very different hair, so I have to pick and choose what I do to each one.
So what is the point of all this hair rambling? Well, I have found a few alternatives that are quick, easy and super cute. Our hair blaughs have temporarily been cured due to the girls willingness to get ready on time lately. I've only taken pictures of a few styles, but I thought I would share my finds incase you are also having a case of the "hair blaughs" at your house.
Three Twists Joined
Some of these pics aren't the best because I took them today after school. Ella's hair was a little crazy by that point. The one of Sadie's hair is much better. I think you can get the general idea though.
- Start with three pigtails at the top of the head. (I've also done it with five and it turned out super cute.) I like to use clear elastics.
- Create a "twist" (or knot as some people call them) in each pigtail. I get out my trusty knockoff TopsyTail tool to make the process simply and pain free. Don't make the elastic too tight, or it will be hard to pull through. You can also do it manually. Girly Do's has a quick tutorial if you need it.
- Take the strands of hair from each pigtail and bring them together at the top of the head.
- Add a cute bow or ribbon and wha-laaaaa! An easy, dressed up version of a pigtail with bow!
- If you have a little extra time, take out a 1-inch flat iron and throw in a few curls. It makes a big difference and it's really quick and easy once you get the hang of it (verses using a curling iron). Click here if you need pointers.

French Braid on a Slant
I thought this idea was so cute, but I can't remember where I stole it from. This worked out great on Hailey's hair because it's so thick. It's a dream to braid! I'm affraid that if I try to explain how to do it, I'll just bore and/or confuse you. Hopefully you can see enough to get the jist!
