CAUTION: MUCH RANTING AND RAVING TO FOLLOW!!!
The older I get, the more I realize that I am a true conservative. I do however hate the games these politicians play. Aside from many of the moral issues, the biggest problem I have with liberals is that they are so willing to give a hand OUT and not a hand UP. I see it first hand every day and it angers me to no end. What happened to personal responsibility and ambition??? There are very few consequences these days when you screw up. A good attorney can find a loop hole anywhere, and if you don't want to work for what you get, you don't have to.
When we lived in Columbus, the local newspaper did an article on people living in government subsidized housing. They interviewed one man who had lived in the projects for something like 37 out of his 42 years of life (his parents moved there when he was 5). His basic needs were met and he lived nearby all of his friends and family. To be fair, he was disabled and unable to work as efficiently as he used to. However, when he was strong and able, he choose NOT to work, but to leach off the rest of society. He simply had no reason or motivation to change his lot.
In another example, my friend worked as a public high school teacher in a small town and would listen to the kids in her class talk about how they couldn't wait until they turned 18 so they could start collecting their welfare checks. I don't know how all of that works, but there is something seriously wrong when able bodied youth are so willingly ready to take advantage of the rest of society instead of making plans of what they want to become and achieve. The values of hard work and perseverance that our country was built upon have been shoved aside by too many lazy "takers".
As Americans, we are all about the quick fixes. We want what we want and we don't want to wait for it. We indulge and eat what we want, then take a pill or have a surgery instead of working hard and eating less. If we see something at the store, we no longer need to save up for it. Instead, we CHARGE IT! We buy houses we can't afford. We're afraid to discipline our kids because they may not like us. We're quick to judge others but easily angered when the finger is pointed at us. If our hormones get in a wad and it results in an unplanned pregnancy, we want a "choice" after the fact (I'm not talking about cases of incest or rape). Notice that I said "we" as I include myself in some (certainly not all) of these issues. That doesn't mean however that I think the government has a responsibility to bail us out of our impulsive, greedy, lazy ways!!!
Another point that is somewhat off the subject, but relevant is the issue of taxes. Can someone explain to me why there is a separate tax rate for different income brackets? Why shouldn't we all be paying the same percentage? If we want equality to prevail in all things, shouldn't we be paying the same amount of taxes as the next person.......rich OR poor????
Now that I have ranted on and on, I wanted to post a little food for thought. I received this email and thought it was very thought provoking. I'm sure there are things you can find like this on the Republican side, but for now, you can come to your own conclusions. (Please let me know if you find errors in the following information, I have not fact checked it myself.)
WHAT DO THE TOP 10 CITIES WITH THE HIGHEST POVERTY RATE ALL HAVE IN COMMON?
Detroit, MI(1st on the poverty rate list) hasn't elected a Republican
mayor since 1961;
Buffalo , NY(2nd) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1954;
Cincinnati, OH(3rd)...hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1984;
Cleveland, OH(4th)...hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1989;

St. Louis, MO(6th)....hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1949;

Einstein once said, 'The definition of insanity is doing the same thing
over and over again and expecting different results.'
It is the disadvantaged who habitually elect Democrats --- yet are still
disadvantaged.
Opinion: The Disadvantaged remain disadvantaged because they are looking
for a Liberal, Democratic Government to give them something, when all they
have to do is work for it.
How can a person be 5th Generation Disadvantaged in this Country?
Wake up America!!!
